Sakigake!! Otokojuku: Meioutou Kessen also known as Sakigake!! Otokojuku: Meikoushima Kessen is a one on one fighting game based on Sakigake!! Otokojuku manga released in 1990 developed and published by Yutaka and exclusively for Nintendo Game Boy on japanese market.

Overview[]

The game is a two button one on one fighting game. Most of the combat is weapon based, with exception of some characters like Bo Feng and Edajima Heihachi. Some characters also have long range attacks instead of close range attacks. The game also have a special attack mechanism, who is activated when the player strikes consecutive attacks without getting hit. The specials are shown in a cutscene form. The game features 3 stages based on the The Great Heaven-Challenging Olympic Tournament and have a traditional arcade mode and story mode. It's possible to play against other player using the Game Boy link cable. This is the first game in the Otokojuku series to be based on The Great Heaven-Challenging Olympic Tournament. A commercial for the game animated by Toei Animation has released as a bonus in Sakigake!! Otokojuku DVD Box in Japan.

Story[]

After the The Great Trembling Conquest of the Unified Eight has ended, the principal of Otokojuku, Edajima Heihachi unites Momotaro, Hien, Jaki and Date to represent Otokojuku in the Tenchou Gorin Dai Bukai, hosted by his rival Todo Hyoei. The game follows the battles of The Great Heaven-Challenging Olympic Tournament in a simplified way. After the defeat of Todo Gouki in Momotaro's hands, Todo Hyoei shows himself as the final challenge of the tournament, with this time Heihachi appearing to defeat his rival. After Todo Hyoei is defeated by Edajima Heihachi, the game ends with Momotaro, Date and Jaki training in Otokojuku grounds.

Trivia[]

  • This is the second Sakigake!! Otokojuku game and the only one for Game Boy. The game series would be put in a hiatus for 12 years until the release of Sakigake!! Otokojuku The Dodgeball for PlayStation. Besides, Momotaro appears in Famicom Jump II, released in 1991.
  • Unlike the first game, this game don't have a english translation
  • Besides being main characters, J, Toramaru and Togashi aren't playable characters. And J don't appear at all!
  • This is the first material to be based on content after The Great Trembling Conquest of the Unified Eight as the anime was cancelled because of protests in Japan.
  • This is the first game of the publisher/developer Yukata.
  • This game supports Game Boy link cable for multiplayer
  • The characters sprites in the game are mostly edits to resemble other character. And besides the special moves, all characters have only one attack and jump.
  • Dragon Ball Z: Goku Hishoden/Gekitoden released later in 1994 also for Game Boy features special moves based on cutscenes too.
