This battle is already settled. So long as we are fighting here, you stand no chance against me.

Priest Tai-xuan is a priest of Gandhara, particularly adept in the art of induced hallucinations.

Appearance[]

Like Priest Zhuan-xiao, Tai-xuan has many of the defining features of a Buddhist monk, including his bald head and kashaya robe. He also wears a tiara depicting a lotus in the center, and wears a necklace and armor on his wrist, though the necklace disappears between panels without explanation.

Personality[]

He is a calm and stoic fighter, who rarely tends to express his emotions. He is respectful towards his enemies, as he lets Eikei think that he managed to kill him so that he would have been able to pass away without any regrets, and called him a hero after his apparent death.

Powers and Abilities[]

Techniques[]

  • Thousand-Ember Dark Rising Summit (千燼曚聳峰せんじんもうしょうほう, Senjin Moshoho): This technique makes use of two items: the Garden of a Hundred Scenes (百景庭ひゃっけいてい, Hyakkeitei), a small box containing a miniature replica of a scene in nature, and Faint Absorbing Incense (耽幽香たんゆうこう, Tanyuko), an incense made from the Jako herb native to the Kashmir region of India, which causes hallucinogenic déjà vu when inhaled. By showing his opponent the Garden of a Hundred Scenes then making them inhale the Faint Absorbing Incense, Tai-xuan is able to cause his opponent to hallucinate that they are in the scenery depicted in the Garden of a Hundred Scenes. Since Tai-xuan uses this to force his opponent to fight in the high peaks around Gandhara, which is familiar to him yet uncertain ground for his opponents, this effectively paralyzes his opponent through their subconscious terror.
  • Twin-Dragon Spear (双龍槍そうりゅうそう, Sōryūsō): Tai-xuan's weapon is a spear bladed on both ends. Tai-xuan is capable of attacking with both ends so quickly that they do not give his opponent any time to breathe.
    • Flying Scythe Spear (飛翔薙槍ひしょうていそう, Hisho Teiso): A technique Tai-xuan uses in the mountain ridges near Gandhara. Tai-xuan is able to use his spear to vault from one ridge, and attack his opponent with the same spear on a different ridge.

History[]

Great Heaven Challenging Olympic Tournament[]

After the defeat of Zhuan-xiao, the High Priest selected Tai-xuan as the next fighter. Eikei decided to confront him...but things weren't as he believed: using his Thousand-Ember Dark Rising Summit, he managed to cause Eikei to hallucinate that he was in the Himalayas. Taking advantage of his adversary's state, Tai-xuan attacked with his Twin-Dragon Spear, using his Flying Scythe Spear technique to wound Eikei.

Even knowing that it was a hallucination, Eikei could not escape...until he threw himself down one of the cataracts of his hallucination and escaped. But it was already too late, as Tai-xuan was already on him, managing to stab his poisoned hand. However, Eikei used his Furious Flying Finger, flinging one of his poisoned fingers into his face. As a reflex, Tai-xuan threw his Twin-Dragon Spear at Eikei's chest, killing him (apparently).

Although at first it looked like he had been poisoned, Tai-xuan had only pretended to honor Eikei's death. Then a new rival entered the combat arena; Hien of the Three Fists. Using his Flying Scythe Spear again, he launched into the attack against Hien, but his rival was faster than he thought. Hien threw two needles at his shoulders, but Tai-xuan got rid of them. He lunged back on the attack, but this time Hien managed to lift him into the air, flinging him against a godlike needle pinned to the ground.

Tai-xuan thought that his circlet would protect him from the impact...and although at first it seemed that he had endured the impact, it turned out that his head was pierced by the needle, pressing a vital point that canceled the pain. Thus, Hien caused Tai-xuan to die painlessly, in gratitude for the sympathy he showed Eikei.
